Where can you find Thassos?
Thassos is a vendurous island of the Nordhern Eagean Sea, located very close to the eastern Macedonia coastline, at a distance of 12 n.miles from Kavala and about 6 n.miles from Keramoti.
It covers an area of 380 sq.km the length of the coastline is 108 km and it has a round shape. It belongs to kavala Prefecture and is divided tot the municipality and nine Municipal Areas.
Thassos is mountainous with springs, marvelous beaches and thick vegetation. The forests cover about 7/10 of the total surface of the island and usually reach the sea. The highest pick is the ipsarion, about 1204 m. high. On the slopes of the mountains grow all kinds of plants where as the lowlands and valleys there are olive and fruit trees.

Thassos is a verdurous paradise with wonderful beaches and scattered villages. It is an island that has many gifts to a visitor. The sun, the sea, the snow-white beaches, the flora and the small picturesque villages create a marvelous landscape that leaves no one untouched.
Thassos has many mountainous settlements because in the old days, the inhabitants used to build their houses high into the mountains to avoid the pirates attacks. Most villages are build at the mountains’ slopes, surrounded by pines, with an excellent view to the sea. It seems that time hasn’t touched the island and the inhabitants, who are kind and hospitable, keep the traditions from generation to generation.
It is worth it for someone to walk to the most solitary places and to be enchanted by the natural beauty of the island.
Thassos island has wonderful beaches all around its coast. Some of them are organised and crowded, while others are solitary and quiet. The mainroad of the island is in a very good condition, allowing the visitor to go wherever he wants for an enjoyable bathe. One can choose between a solitary beach, for relaxation resting, or one of the well-known crowded beaches, for drinking coffee or ouzo by the sea.
